India Recognized for Leadership in Pharmaceutical Quality Standards at Global Pharmacopoeias Meeting in Brazil

A high-level delegation from the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, successfully represented India at the 16th International Meeting of World Pharmacopoeias (IMWP) in Brasília, Brazil. Coordinated by the World Health Organization (WHO), the prestigious event gathered global pharmacopoeia leaders to advance medicine quality standards and international harmonization.

Led by Dr. V. Kalaiselvan, Secretary-cum-Scientific Director, the Indian delegation presented major milestones in modernization and global convergence. A key highlight of the meeting was the official reaffirmation that Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) standards are fully comparable with leading international benchmarks.

Furthermore, India was globally recognized for its exceptional leadership in establishing robust quality standards for critical, complex therapeutics, including anti-tuberculosis and anti-cancer medicines, blood products, and treatments for anaemia. The delegation also actively drove discussions on modern microbiological methods and environmental sustainability in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

India’s impactful participation at the 16th IMWP has significantly strengthened international regulatory collaborations, reaffirming the nation’s growing leadership in securing premium global pharmaceutical quality standards for patients worldwide.
