Biocon Limited has entered into a strategic 10-year partnership agreement with Bahiafarma and Bionovis to supply pertuzumab a targeted monoclonal antibody indicated for HER2-positive breast cancer under Brazil’s Productive Development Partnership (PDP) program.
The consortium comprising Biocon, Bahiafarma, and Bionovis was granted a 100% allocation under the 10-year PDP program. The framework secures exclusive access to Brazil’s public healthcare network, the Unified Health System (SUS), which accounts for approximately 70% of the country’s total pertuzumab consumption. Under the contractual terms, Biocon will receive milestone payments alongside a dedicated share of revenues generated across the program’s 10-year duration.
Pertuzumab binds specifically to the extracellular domain of the HER2 protein, inhibiting dimerization with other HER receptors to arrest downstream tumor proliferation signaling. While historically representing a substantial import expenditure for the Brazilian public health system, the new partnership incorporates a phased localization strategy over the mid to long term, enabling progressive domestic technology transfer and manufacturing capability.
The long-term alliance aligns with Biocon’s commercial strategy to scale patient access to biosimilars across emerging markets while reinforcing public oncology care delivery in Latin America.
