India’s pharmaceutical sector has witnessed remarkable growth over the past 12 years, driven by initiatives aimed at expanding healthcare access, strengthening domestic manufacturing, and promoting self-reliance. The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana has expanded significantly, with Jan Aushadhi Kendras increasing from just 84 outlets to more than 19,200 across the country, making quality medicines affordable and accessible to millions.

The North Eastern region has also recorded substantial progress, with the number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras rising from one to 417 during this period. Meanwhile, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Pharmaceuticals has attracted cumulative investments of ₹42,694 crore and generated over 1.13 lakh employment opportunities, reinforcing India’s position as a global pharmaceutical manufacturing hub.

Additionally, the PLI Scheme for Medical Devices has contributed to sales worth ₹29,400 crore, boosting domestic production capabilities and supporting the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat while ensuring improved healthcare access nationwide.
