Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the national celebrations of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 in Kolkata on June 21, reaffirming India’s commitment to promoting holistic health and well-being through yoga. The announcement was made by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush, Prataprao Jadhav.
The theme for this year’s observance, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlights the role of yoga in supporting physical fitness, mental wellness, and healthy ageing across all age groups. The event is expected to witness large-scale participation from yoga practitioners, students, healthcare professionals, and citizens from across the country.
International Day of Yoga, observed annually on June 21 since 2015 following a United Nations resolution proposed by India, has evolved into a global movement promoting preventive healthcare and wellness. The Kolkata event will serve as the flagship national celebration, showcasing yoga’s contribution to a healthier and more active society.
