Prime Minister Inaugurates Advanced Healthcare Infrastructure Worth ₹4,700+ Crore at PGIMER Chandigarh

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today dedicated major healthcare infrastructure expansions at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, marking a landmark transformation in regional medical services.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the ₹440-crore Advanced Neurosciences Centre and the state-of-the-art Advanced Mother and Child Centre, both adding 300 highly specialized beds to the premier institute. Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for a new 150-bed Critical Care Block under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM),designed to elevate emergency preparedness and disaster response.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister highlighted India’s transformational healthcare journey over the past twelve years, shifting the narrative from a privilege to an accessible right. He announced the approval of a new MBBS college at PGIMER, reinforcing national medical education expansion, which has seen medical colleges more than double since 2014.

Union Health Minister Shri J.P. Nadda highly praised the initiatives, emphasizing the government’s integrated approach linking over 1.75 lakh primary Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to specialized tertiary care, alongside the rapid expansion of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission across the country.
