A Proud Moment for Bengal: Kolkata to Host International Day of Yoga 2026 on June 21

In a moment of pride for West Bengal, Kolkata has been officially selected as the host city for the main national celebration of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 to be held on June 21.
Union Ayush Minister Pratap Rao Jadhav made announcement confirming the theme for this year as “Yoga for healthy ageing” spotlighting yoga‘s vital role in physical health, mental well-being and graceful ageing.
The announcement came during Yoga Mahotsav 2026 at UNESCO World Heritage site, Western group of temples, Khajuraho making the 25 countdown to IDY 2026, organised by The Moraji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), Ministry of Ayush.
A Guinness world record attempt is also scheduled for June 14 2026 inviting citizens to unite through yoga. The ministry has re-launched the Yoga Sangam portal for public registration.
Kolkata, a city synonyms with India’s spiritual and cultural legacy now stands at the heartbeat of this global wellness movement.
