Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta revealed plans to establish four new medical colleges in Alipurduar, Kalimpong, Dakshin Dinajpur, and Paschim Bardhaman, aiming to improve access to quality healthcare and medical education across the state.

In a major boost for aspiring healthcare professionals, the government will increase MBBS seats by 650 and postgraduate medical seats by 450 in medical colleges across West Bengal. The budget also includes the creation of a dedicated AYUSH Department, highlighting the state’s commitment to strengthening traditional systems of medicine alongside modern healthcare.

These initiatives are expected to enhance healthcare delivery, address the growing demand for qualified medical professionals, and strengthen West Bengal’s healthcare ecosystem. The announcements reflect the government’s continued focus on expanding healthcare infrastructure and building a stronger, more accessible healthcare system for the future.
