The Union Health Ministry has launched the JANANI platform, a major digital healthcare initiative aimed at strengthening maternal and child healthcare services across India. Announced during the National Summit on Best Practices, the platform is designed to create and maintain comprehensive digital health records for women throughout their reproductive years.

Developed as an upgraded version of the existing Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) portal, JANANI enables longitudinal tracking of healthcare services by recording key events across the continuum of care, including pregnancy registration, antenatal care, childbirth, immunization, and postnatal support. The initiative is expected to improve service delivery, continuity of care, and data-driven healthcare planning within the public health system.

According to data shared by the Ministry, the platform has already achieved 1.34 crore beneficiary registrations, including more than 30 lakh pregnant women registrations. In addition, over 30 lakh Maternal and Child Health (MCH) cards have been generated, while biometric verification has crossed the one lakh mark.

The launch of JANANI reflects India’s growing emphasis on digital public health infrastructure and technology-enabled healthcare delivery, particularly in the area of maternal and child health, which remains a key national healthcare priority.
