Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially inaugurated a newly upgraded, state-of-the-art 220-bedded Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital in Surat, Gujarat. The virtual dedication ceremony was held as part of a massive regional development package encompassing multiple infrastructure projects collectively valued at approximately ₹18,800 crore. Representing a capital investment of ₹216 crore, the newly expanded facility marks a major transition from an existing 100-bed unit into a robust 220-bed multi-specialty and referral hub.

The sprawling 8.60-acre campus is strategically located within 20 minutes of the Surat Railway
Station, facilitating rapid, high-accessibility medical transit for the industrial workforce. The Surat ESIC Hospital will serve as a critical healthcare lifeline for nearly 3.20 lakh Insured Persons (IPs) and approximately 12.16 lakh total dependent beneficiaries across the highly industrialised belt of Surat, Tapi, and Navsari. In line with the social security mandates of the ESIC framework, all multi-specialty clinical consultations, essential pharmacy dispensations, and
high-cost surgical interventions—including advanced cataract removals and complex implantations—will be provided to workers and their families completely free of charge.

In addition to advanced clinical care, the newly established complex integrates a medical college facility. This integration brings an exclusive educational benefit, providing specialized admission
opportunities for the children of insured industrial workers seeking paths into professional medical education.

This landmark inauguration significantly reinforces Gujarat’s ESI social security umbrella. Continuously active since its inception in the state in 1964, the system now safeguards the health and livelihood of over 20 lakh insured workers distributed across 34 districts, establishing a new benchmark for industrial welfare infrastructure in western India.
