Mother Dairy, one of India’s leading dairy brandunveiled India’s first naturally degradable milk pouch on 2 June 2026. The degradable pouchesdecompose naturally in soil without leaving behind microplastics will initially roll out at pilot scale in theDelhi-NCR region on 5 June 2026, in the occasion of World Environment Day. The naturally degradable milk pouches will initially be available for its cow milk variant only.
Mother Dairy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), associated as the primary milk supply in Delhi-NCR-region for a long time. During a press conference at Taj hotel, Delhi executives form the brand introduced brands new milk pouch as a first-of-its-kind degradable packaging innovation that enables the material to transform into a bioavailable wax, which is naturally broken down by microbes present in the soil and turn it into a part of the soil. The company also quoted its naturally degradable milk pouch solution as a result of being developed after more than four years of research.
Mother Dairy, commissioned in 1974, associated with manufactures, markets & sells milk and milk products including cultured products, ice creams, paneer, ghee, etc. under the ‘Mother Dairy’ brand. The company also has a diversified portfolio with products in edible oils under the ‘Dhara’ brand and fresh fruits & vegetables, frozen vegetables & snacks, pulps & concentrates, etc. under the ‘Safal’ brand.
Mother Dairy also indicated that the launch in Delhi-NCR is the first phase of its newest initiative. Depending on consumer response and operational feasibility, it has plans to gradually extend the degradable packaging to other milk variants and possibly other regions of India in the near future.
