India’s COVID-19 vaccination landscape continues to evolve, with the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) releasing an updated list of approved vaccines as of April 22, 2026. The latest update reflects not just continuity, but a forward-looking approach to tackling emerging variants and improving public health preparedness.Familiar vaccines such as Covishield and Covaxin remain central to India’s immunization efforts, while newer developments are shaping the next phase. Notably, a variant-specific version of Covovax targeting the Omicron JN.1 strain has now been approved, highlighting a shift toward more adaptive vaccine strategies.

The updated approvals cover a wide population base, extending eligibility to younger age groups and reinforcing booster dose options. Vaccines like Corbevax and ZyCoV-D continue to support both primary and booster immunization. Meanwhile, innovations such as the intranasal vaccine iNCOVACC offer alternative delivery approaches.

Together, these developments underline India’s commitment to staying prepared—blending experience with innovation to respond effectively to an ever-changing pandemic landscape.
