The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued 9 official notices to quick-commerce platform Swiggy Instamart. The regulatory action follows a surge in consumer complaints alleging multiple violations under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Key grievances highlight the delivery of expired, spoiled, and contaminated food products. Specific incidents include the supply of expired whey protein, rotten organic eggs emitting a foul odor, and a highly deteriorated infant food formulation that was allegedly re-delivered to a customer after being returned. The apex regulator also flagged systemic compliance failures, including invalid or non-existent FSSAI license numbers among listed sellers, inadequate quality monitoring, and poor grievance redressal where platforms merely offered refunds instead of addressing critical safety hazards.

In response, the FSSAI has directed the Food Business Operator (FBO) to submit a comprehensive compliance report and a detailed explanation backed by documentary evidence. Swiggy Instamart must outline its corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), root cause analysis, and upgraded protocols for inventory management and seller verification. Failure to submit the report within the stipulated period will result in immediate legal action.
