Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. has announced a temporary delay in the commercial supply of semaglutide products marketed in India. The suspension follows a routine assessment revealing that certain batches of the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) were out of specification.

The supply constraints impact multiple prominent brands in the country that rely on this active ingredient. Impacted products include Semalix (marketed by Torrent Pharma), Obeda(marketed by Dr. Reddy’s), and Usema (marketed by USV). Semaglutide is widely prescribed as a GLP-1 receptor agonist for type 2 diabetes management and chronic weight management.

In regards with the supply freeze, Dr. Reddy’s has issued a formal market recall notice dated July 8, 2026, targeting specific inventory manufactured in February 2026 with an expiration date of January 2028. The affected product lines under recall include 4 mg/3 mL and 2mg/1.5mL strengths for the brands Obeda Olymviq and Mashlo.

Stockists, institutions, and clearing agents have been instructed to immediately isolate and return the specified batches. Healthcare professionals and patients may encounter short-term availability challenges as the company actively works to rectify the technical issue and restore consistent supply channels.
