In a landmark achievement for military medicine, the Neurosurgery Department at the Army Hospital Research & Referral (R&R) has successfully performed the first-ever robotic stereotactic brain stem biopsy within the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS). This milestone marks a significant leap forward in integrating advanced robotics with high-precision neurosurgery to treat critical conditions.

The brain stem regulates vital life functions, making traditional surgical interventions in this area exceptionally high-risk. By leveraging cutting-edge robotic stereotactic technology, the surgical team achieved sub-millimeterprecision, navigating a safe path to extract a tissue sample while completely safeguarding surrounding critical nerve pathways. This minimally invasive approach drastically reduces patient risk, ensures unmatched accuracy, and paves the way for faster recovery times.

This historic procedure reflects the unwavering commitment of the AFMS and Army Hospital R&R to clinical excellence, technological advancement, and world-class patient care. By safely accessing previously unreachable areas of the brain, the department opens new doors for advanced diagnostics and targeted treatment plans. This success stands as a testament to visionary leadership, seamless multidisciplinary teamwork, and a relentless pursuit of medical innovation within India’s armed forces.
