In a landmark shift for American healthcare, Medicare has begun covering GLP-1 medications — including semaglutide (Wegovy) and tirzepatide(Zepbound) — for patients with obesity and related conditions, following agreements between the Trump Administration, Novo Nordisk, and Eli Lilly.
Eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries can now access these treatments for a $50 monthly copay, down from list prices exceeding $1,000. Through TrumpRx.gov, all eligible Americans pay $245–$350/month for injectables and $149/month for oral GLP-1 pills.
Adding momentum, Eli Lilly’s oral pill Foundayo (orforglipron), FDA-approved in April 2026, and Novo Nordisk’s oral Wegovy, launched in January 2026, offer injection-free alternatives — broadening patient uptake significantly.
Healthcare providers urge patients to consult their physicians to confirm eligibility through Medicare Part D, Medicaid, or TrumpRx.
