The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued an official notice to SAJ Food Products following a consumer complaint regarding misleading labeling on their “Eat Fit Digestive Biscuits.”
The initial complaint pointed out that while the front label prominently advertised “100% Atta,” the product’s actual ingredients list declared only 72.33% atta. Upon investigation, FSSAI flags multiple non-compliances. Beyond the misleading “100% Atta” claim which contains other additives and violates an FSSAI advisory against using “100%” claims the regulator also found the “No Added Sugar” label to be deceptive, as the biscuits contain maltodextrin and glucose syrup solids. Furthermore, FSSAI stated that the product name “Eat Fit Digestive” requires formal scientific justification under the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising & Claims) Regulations, 2018.
SAJ Food Products has been strictly directed to furnish a detailed explanation within 7 days. Failure to provide a satisfactory response within this timeframe will prompt the regulator to initiate formal legal and regulatory action under the provisions of the FSS Act, 2006.
