Hosted at the Sri Puthige Narasimha Sabhabhavana, Geetha Mandir in Udupi, a 15 day workshop initiative has been taken to focus on transliteration of ancient Ayurveda manuscripts,building expertise among scholars in reading, deciphering, and transcribing historical texts written in the Tigalari and Old Kannada scripts, which are predominantly found in the coastal regions of Karnataka.
The high-profile educational program is a collaborative venture jointly organized by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Ministry of Ayush, and the Central Sanskrit University (CSU), Ministry of Education, Government of India. The initiative is being executed in partnership with the Sri Vadiraja Research Foundation and has received the formal blessings of His Holiness Sri Sri Sugunendra Tirtha Sripada, Pontiff of Sri Puthige Matha, alongside Junior Pontiff His Holiness Sri Sri Sushrindra Tirtha Sripada.
The primary objective of the workshop is to cultivate a specialized cohort of young scholars from Ayurveda and Sanskrit backgrounds who can work alongside experts to edit, transliterate, and prepare previously unpublished manuscripts for public distribution.
The event was formally inaugurated by Prof. Vaidya Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General of CCRAS. In his opening address, he highlighted the extensive documentation and dissemination strategies undertaken by CCRAS. He further emphasized the Government of India’s broader efforts under the Gyan Bharatam Mission, which focuses heavily on conserving and promoting the nation’s rich knowledge traditions.
Upon the conclusion of the 15-day workshop, the transliterated manuscripts developed by the participants will be taken up for official publication by CCRAS and the Central Sanskrit University. This continued publishing effort ensures that India’s traditional, time-tested medical resources are permanently archived, contributing to wider global dissemination and research.
