In a significant step toward improving pharmaceutical logistics, India has launched Aushadhi Express, a dedicated refrigerated rail service designed for the safe transportation of temperature-sensitive medicines and healthcare products. The train was flagged off from Sanathnagar in Hyderabad to Navi Mumbai, connecting two major pharmaceutical and export hubs.
The initiative is expected to strengthen India’s cold chain infrastructure by ensuring controlled-temperature movement of critical drugs, vaccines, and life-saving formulations during transit. Experts believe the service will help reduce spoilage risks, improve supply chain reliability, and support pharmaceutical exporters in maintaining global quality standards.
Developed to offer a more efficient and sustainable alternative to road transport, the refrigerated rail corridor is also expected to lower logistics costs and reduce carbon emissions. Industry stakeholders have welcomed the move as an important advancement for India’s growing pharmaceutical sector and a strategic boost to the country’s healthcare export capabilities.
