The IIMBue 2026 Global Leadership Conclave was held in Bengaluru, where Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata outlined a strategic shift toward institution-building, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to advancing healthcare and higher education across India.

Emphasizing that Tata companies exist to serve society and improve quality of life, Tata announced plans to establish 40 to 50 not-for-profit general hospitals across the country. Building on the Trusts’ successful partnership with the Assam government which established 17 cancer care centers the proposed general hospitals will operate on a cross-subsidy model. Under this framework, paying patients will support treatment for economically weaker sections, ensuring high standards of care for all.

In education, Tata highlighted the urgent need to expand domestic institutional capacity to retain top academic talent and reduce the necessity for students to seek degrees abroad. As part of this initiative, Tata Trusts is collaborating with the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) to establish a new undergraduate institution. To scale educational infrastructure nationwide, Tata also advocated for regulatory reforms to encourage greater private capital investment in India’s higher education sector.

Addressing modern philanthropic practices, Tata called for greater accountability, transparency, and measurable outcomes. He emphasized moving beyond traditional NGO funding and vague impact metrics to focus on tangible, lasting results that benefit future generations.

“The founders left their shares in the companies to the Trusts with one message – do good for India,” said Noel Tata. “We are committed to creating sustainable, high-quality institutions that deliver real, measurable differences to the nation.”
