Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda Reviews NIPER Mohali’s Innovation Pipeline, Inaugurates Medicinal Succulents Garden

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers, Shri J. P. Nadda, visited the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Mohali, marking a significant step toward strengthening India’s pharmaceutical innovation ecosystem. During his visit, he inaugurated the NIPER Medicinal Succulents Garden, a unique initiative aimed at promoting awareness of medicinal plants while integrating traditional knowledge with modern pharmaceutical research.

Reviewing NIPER’s cutting-edge biopharma infrastructure, Shri Nadda emphasized the critical importance of translational research that moves scientific discoveries from laboratories into real-world healthcare solutions. He encouraged stronger collaboration between academia and industry to accelerate innovation, commercialization, and India’s global leadership in pharmaceuticals.

The visit highlighted NIPER Mohali’s advancements in biopharmaceuticals, biosimilars, advanced drug delivery systems, and emerging technologies such as AI-driven pharmacoinformatics. Shri Nadda also reiterated the government’s commitment to the Biopharma SHAKTI mission, aimed at boosting India’s self-reliance in APIs, key starting materials, and biologics.

Senior officials, including Department of Pharmaceuticals Secretary Shri Manoj Joshi, stressed the need for industry-sponsored research and commercialization-focused academic growth. The visit reinforced NIPER Mohali’s role as a national center for pharmaceutical excellence and a key driver of India’s innovation-led healthcare future.
