Momentis Surgical has secured 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for a multiport version of its Anovo Surgical System, the company announced July 23 from its Fort Lauderdale and Tel Aviv offices. With this approval, Anovo becomes the only robotic surgery platform on the market able to support natural orifice, single-port, and multiport techniques all within one system.

Unlike conventional robotic arms, which rely on rigid tools that need significant external clearance, Anovo uses instruments with internal joints modeled loosely on a human shoulder, elbow, and wrist. This design keeps articulation inside the patient’s body, cutting down on arm collisions and bulky hardware while still achieving full rotational movement at the operative site.

CEO Dvir Cohen said the goal was never to mimic traditional laparoscopic robots but to reimagine the technology entirely. Chairman Maurice Ferré added that surgeons need freedom to match technique to patient needs. The upgrade builds on Momentis’s earlier clearances, including its transvaginal and hernia-repair authorizations.
