New Hope for Thyroid Eye Disease Treatment as FDA Approves Lumvoa

Waltham-based Viridian Therapeutics (Nasdaq: VRDN) has secured U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance for Lumvoa™ (veligrotug-vvze), marking the company’s debut as a commercial-stage biotech and introducing a new standard of care for thyroid eye disease (TED) — a painful autoimmune disorder that causes orbital inflammation, bulging eyes, double vision, and potential sight loss.

What sets Lumvoa apart from existing options is its broad eligibility: it is the only FDA-approved TED therapy whose label encompasses outcomes data from both active-phase and chronic-phase patients. Across the two pivotal THRIVE trials, every primary and secondary endpoint was met, with proptosisimprovements emerging within three weeks of the first infusion. Notably, Lumvoa demonstrated statistically significant resolution of double vision — a first for any approved TED treatment in both disease stages.

Administered as five intravenous infusions across twelve weeks, Lumvoa is now immediately available by prescription. Viridian has simultaneously launched ViridianCares™, a patient support initiative offering insurance navigation and financial assistance. A second TED candidate, subcutaneous elegrobart, is advancing toward a BLA submission in early 2027.
