Novartis has entered into a strategic collaboration and license agreement with Antares Therapeutics to discover and develop next-generation small molecule oncology treatments. The transaction is valued at up to $1.9 billion, including upfront payments and potential milestone achievements, plus royalties on future sales.
The partnership combines Novartis’ global scale and clinical development expertise in oncology with Antares’ cutting-edge, drug discovery platform. This platform integrates advanced chemical proteomics, structured computational chemistry, and specialized screening libraries to identify and lock onto cancer targets historically deemed “undruggable.”
Under the terms of the agreement, Antares will spearhead the initial research and early-stage drug discovery phases. Novartis retains the exclusive options to license and advance the resulting therapeutic programs into global clinical development and commercialization.
Antares Therapeutics, an innovative spinout from Scorpion Therapeutics, continues to validate the industry’s high-premium demand for precision biotechnology platforms. By leveraging robust computational workflows and chemical biology, the collaboration aims to overcome conventional R&D boundaries and deliver breakthrough, highly targeted therapies to cancer patients worldwide.
